James S. Calder, M.D., received his Bachelor of Science degree, and his medical degree, from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. He completed his internship and residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Minnesota, and became board certified in that field.

Dr. Calder began his medical career as the Associate Medical Director of Rehabilitation Services at Northridge Hospital Medical Center. In 1998 he went into private practice focusing on cosmetic laser surgery and the medical management of dermatologic skin and hair conditions.

In 1999, following a preceptorship, he became a hair transplant surgeon with a practice based in Los Angeles. Since then, he has practiced successfully, both as an associate surgeon and as medical director, of several California and Arizona based practices. Dr. Calder was also a clinical research coordinator for practice-based evaluation of the efficacy of laser therapy in the prevention of hair loss and in the post-operative applications of low intensity light therapy to accelerate healing.

In 2008, Dr. Calder elected to affiliate with the world’s leader in hair transplantation and joined Bosley Medical.  He now practices in the South Florida Bosley surgical clinic located in Boca Raton.
