FUE vs. Strip Hair Transplant

There has been a hot debate for many years about FUE vs. Strip hair transpalnt.  Many doctors have their own strong point of view about one versus the other procedure.  Patients complained to me that at times they find contraversial information in online sources about the pros and cons of FUE vs. Strip hair transplantation also.

It would be interesting to open the subject here in this professional forum and see:

  1. How doctors define the candidacy of their patients for each procedures.
  2. What patients feel about each of these procedures and what is their underestanding of the best hair restoration option for them.

FUE vs. Strip Hair Transplant

Hi there,

Well I am not a doctor; however the strip technique (also known as FUT- Follicular Unit Transplant) is a method of treating hair loss in which hair grafts are extracted and then implanted in the patient’s balding areas.

The advantage of choosing this method is that more hair can be taken in a shorter time, and the procedure is slightly less expensive. Individuals who do not have a problem with a strip scar may prefer this method.

Good day dear dr

Good day dear dr

I was worked with dr.besaran Q. Fattah. I estimated that he extracted 1100 grafts in 70 minutes.... For more than several operations He extracted even faster, that lead me to prepare myself completely  for FUE, with the truth it spent less time,

Re:FUE vs. Strip Hair Transplant

Here I list the some Do’s and Dont’s OF STRIP:
Do’s

1. Requires Less money
2. Get number of grafts per session
3. Easier to search and find a good strip doctor than a good FUE doc

Dont’s:
1. Gives you More pain and this treatment is uncomfortable
2. Requires longer time to get recovery from it.

Do’s and Dont’s of FUE :
Do’s
1. Less visible scarring in the donor
2. Can still have very short haircuts
3. It involved Less pain
4. Requires lesser time to get recovery from it.

Dont’s:

1. More costlier
2. Comparatively gets less grafts per session than strip

Nice post very use full

Nice post very use full information

Both are good

Both FUE and FUT are good techniques, it depends on the case which technique is the best for ach case.  I see great results with both techniques but I am also starting to see more people coming back after being mis-sold FUE, that is people with advanced hair loss that have now had 2-3 FUE surgeries leaving the donor area in a bad state with gaps and scars as to much has been taken and results in top still being poor, you can not just continue to extract with FUE time and time again.  The most important thing is to be well educated and speak to someone that will give yoi a honest evaluation of what will work for you.

I am a consultant for Vinci Hair Clinic but all my views expressed here are my own and do not necessarily represent the clinic.

FUE or Strip ...........Or COMBINED (Extended Hair Transplant)

After Strip surgery being revolutionaized and FUE becoming a ROBOTIC .......why not to combine the procedures.... (FUT and FUE in ONE session).

I have been doing it for more than a Year now, obviously in patients who accept the linear donor scar, The results are WONDERFUL, converting a 2-step  surgery into ONE step..The technique qill be presented at Annual meeting in 2013 as well.........

FUE is being more popular

FUE is being more popular in patients with hair loss as they do no like to bear a linear scar on their posterior scalp. They also do not like invasive surgery like FUT for their procedure done as I experienced. They like FUE very much as it is a less invasive, painless and bloodless minor surgery. Moreover it does not leave any scars on donor parts of a patient. The tech is really very useful but it requires independence on hair grafts harvesting as we could not treat individuals with lack of their donor parts. It would possilble after successful culture of hair follicles in labs by scientists in fulture, i think the day will come soon and I am still waiting for it keenly. No doubt the tech would get its peak if it become possible.

When we talk about FUT or Strip Harvesting Method with patients, most of them deny to undergo its procedure as they think bleeding would take place when a strip of skin is taken surgically. They fear to get a permnent scar on their head. It is a matter of their aesthetic appearance I think.

FUE special advantage

As all surgeon know that hair emerged scalp in a group ( follicular unit ) . In FUE you can select which unit ( of course  that containing more hair) to be extract  over the whole donation  safe zone. In contrast to FUT ,where you have a lesser donor area, you have a lesser follicular unit that contain larger number of hair, you will be obligated  to use a unit that contain a lesser number of hairs.

FUT FUE

What is important to understand is that these pertain only to donor harvest technique.  In general, more grafts (and, therefore, thicker recipient density) can be acheived via strip havesting.  Some people want to cut their hair very short in their donor region.  If this is the case, FUE would preferrred.  BOTH techniques provide very natural results if performed by an experienced, honest, and ethical hair restoration surgeon.  It is up to the patient to do his or her homework in this regard.
